Nicola Young Midlands UK_edited.jpg

I'm an award-winning photographer who has loved shooting performances for many years mixing capturing unit stills for film and TV with theatre and event photography. I love the art of storytelling, discreetly capturing those magic moments on set or stage that help show the bigger picture and give you the resources to promote your final production.  Based in the Midlands, UK but more than happy to travel. I'd love  be part of your next project.

I'm a graduate of Nicola Dove's Film Stills Academy and over the past few years have worked on numerous films including BBC TV series, a BFI funded short and a World War II love story feature film as well as photographing numerous theatre productions.

My work has been recognised by being shortlisted in the prestigious Travel Photographer of the Year Awards more than 10 times since, including 3 winning places and a winning place in Urban Photographer of the Year.

Testamonials

'Nicola was fantastic to have on set, she was quiet as a church mouse and yet the quality of her work was gargantuan. Her brilliant photos not only elevated the quality of our production but gave us wonderful material for the marketing of our short film. I would work with Nicola again in a heartbeat on any set' Cherene Bracegirdle-Smith & Amadeus Redha, Last Minute Wonders.

'Nicola's work is so very accomplished, the focus, the texture of the shot, the framing, the colours. You look at one of her photos and you can become lost in it, mesmerised, as she has captured a story in the frame you were not initially aware of. Her pictures are beautiful, they have a natural quality which captives you. Nicola is fantastic to work with, she loves what she does, is always there to take photographs and is always a cheerful member of the crew regardless of the conditions' Margaret Milner Schumueck, Split Second Films

'Her professionalism set the bar on what a Unit Stills Photographer could be, she engaged and kept hidden when capturing photos which led to everyone portrayed in their element' Azim Miah

''

'She was almost invisible and caught people at their most natural as they were concentrating on their roles - as an actor, extra or crew member. The resultant stills are total natural and true to life. How did she get all those shots without my noticing a single one? She has an eye for composition and a sense of drama and captures the moment every time. Highly recommended' Roger Harding, Two Hats Films

'Always easy to work with, approachable, and produces fantastic photographs which really capture the feel and joy of our events. Thank you!' Beth Fiducia-Brookes, Underground Lights

'She's an awesome theatre photographer with a calm, unobtrusive manner that instantly puts artists at ease. She has an eye for detail and captures images depicting the range of emotions and compelling stories our artists portray on stage.' Jennie Gentles, Marketing & Communications Manager, Shoot Festival
