"Incredible. If you want discrete stills, Nicola is the photographer you need" Two Hats Films

Nicola Young Midlands UK_edited.jpg

I’ve been shooting performances for many years initially for theatre and now doing Unit Stills for Film and TV.  I love being on set being part of the crew that helps to bring a story to life. I’m skilled in fast moving environments, discrete and adaptable both in the great outdoors or in a studio and although I’m based in the UK – Midlands, I am more than happy to travel. I have a base in Coventry, Hinckley (Leics) and Banbury (Oxon).

In a previous life I worked doing marketing for theatre productions so I have a good eye for a shot that helps tell the story and attract audiences. I'm a recent graduate of Nicola Dove's Film Stills Academy - learning from her years of experience including 007's No Time To Die and have worked on several films including a BFI funded short and a World War II love story feature.

My work has been recognised by being shortlisted in the prestigious Travel Photographer of the Year Awards more than 10 times since, including 3 winning places and a winning place in Urban Photographer of the Year.

Clients include Split Second Films, Renecide Film, Two Hats Films, Freya Esther Films, State of Flux, The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Belgrade Theatre - Coventry, Imagine Theatre, Phizzical, Corn Exchange - Newbury, Dundee Rep Theatre, Kali Theatre, Shoot Festival, Underground Lights, NATMAS, Mercurial Dance and Opera Up Close.

Testamonials

'Nicola's work is so very accomplished, the focus, the texture of the shot, the framing, the colours. You look at one of her photos and you can become lost in it, mesmerised, as she has captured a story in the frame you were not initially aware of. Her pictures are beautiful, they have a natural quality which captives you. Nicola is fantastic to work with, she loves what she does, is always there to take photographs and is always a cheerful member of the crew regardless of the conditions' Margaret Milner Schumueck, Split Second Films

'Her professionalism set the bar on what a Unit Stills Photographer could be, she engaged and kept hidden when capturing photos which led to everyone portrayed in their element' Azim Miah

''

'She was almost invisible and caught people at their most natural as they were concentrating on their roles - as an actor, extra or crew member. The resultant stills are total natural and true to life. How did she get all those shots without my noticing a single one? She has an eye for composition and a sense of drama and captures the moment every time. Highly recommended' Roger Harding, Two Hats Films

'Always easy to work with, approachable, and produces fantastic photographs which really capture the feel and joy of our events. Thank you!' Beth Fiducia-Brookes, Underground Lights

'She's an awesome theatre photographer with a calm, unobtrusive manner that instantly puts artists at ease. She has an eye for detail and captures images depicting the range of emotions and compelling stories our artists portray on stage.' Jennie Gentles, Marketing & Communications Manager, Shoot Festival
